For demolition

In the contemporary Chinese city, the character 拆 (chai) has become very common since one decade. Written on walls, doors, windows of old buildings, it means “For demolition”.
Here, in Chongqing, the old city located in the Yuzhong central district is being almost completely removed. This is part of the urban renewal agenda of the local government: in place of old streets and traditional housing will soon stand new luxury skyscrapers.
